Before controlling pressure

Before controlling the pressure, check the tyre temperature.
If the tyres have covered a distance exceeding 1-2 kilometres, do not perform any control until the tyres have returned to ambient temperature.
If it is necessary to cover a certain distance to inflate the tyres, check and note down the pressure of the tyres first and add the required air once you reach the pump. When driving it is normal for the tyres to heat up, thus leading to an increase of the internal pressure.
Remember, never reduce the pressure when the tyres are hot.

Check the inflation pressure on 'cold' tyres. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. remove the tyre valve cap
  2. press the pressure gauge firmly onto the valve and control the pressure
  3. add air until the recommended pressure level is reached
  4. if too much air is put in, let some air out by pressing the metal stem with your nail or the tip of a pen. Then repeat step 2.
  5. replace the cap on the valve
  6. repeat the operation on each tyre, including the spare tyre
  7. make sure that there are no nails or other bodies trapped that could make a hole in the tyre
  8. check the sidewalls of the tread to make sure that there are no cuts, convexity, nor any other imperfections and irregularities.
