Grand-Am

Pirelli is the official tire partner of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve for the three year period 2008 to 2010 and as part of that agreement Pirelli P Zero is the exclusive tire fitment for all cars in the Daytona Prototype and GT categories.

The Grand-Am series has grown to become the biggest top level sports car series in the USA, with its showcase event, the Daytona 24 Hours, regularly starting over 60 cars on the grid. It has attracted superstar drivers too, from such diverse backgrounds as Formula1 and Nascar.

The top category in Grand-Am Road Racing and the undisputed stars of all the races are the Daytona Prototypes.  Exotic, mid-engined machines, purpose built for racing, they can reach speeds approaching 200 mph (300kph +). Some of the tracks, like Daytona and Homestead, also feature banked curves, so the stresses on the tires can be phenomenal. For this reason Pirelli have developed special versions of their P Zero race tire for use in this series.

Usually running in the same race with the Prototypes, though sometimes with their own race, there is the Rolex Series GT division - home to production based race cars that are similar in appearance to the latest high performance sports cars and coupes that you see every day on the street. Under the skin though, they are quite a bit different! Typically Porsches and Ferraris mix it with Corvettes and Pontiacs, Mazdas and BMW's.
It makes for an exciting event and great television; it is covered by Speed TV in the States.
