Regional 01 Series: revolutionary tyre
Pirelli Tyre, in front of 350 international journalists, dealers, and clients who had come to Palazzo Albergati (Bologna, 19 May 2009) for the launch of the new FR:01 and TR:01. The announcement was followed by a declaration of intent, "We have given ourselves the objective of doubling sales of "green" products from 20 to 40%,. These products help reduce fuel consumption, and consequently, decrease CO2 emissions," Gori continued, stating that there is room for growth and this obviously requires products which combine innovation with competitiveness and quality. "This road may be difficult and challenging but we want to continue to travel down it successfully with our clients," concluded Pirelli Tyre’s CEO. The efforts and the commitment of Pirelli’s engineers have allowed us to create a revolutionary tyre. "In fact, the new Regional combines two points of view which, only a short time ago, seemed irreconcilable: strict environmental regulations and our clients’ requirements," explained Alessandro Ascanelli, Research and Development Director for Pirelli. When it comes to trucks, by being more focussed on absolutes, these needs are even further apart; the gap between the laws and users’ needs seemed very difficult to bridge. Particularly dramatic research and experimentation, however,led us to achieve the evolution of the 01 Series which, with the "Ecoimpact" concept stamped on its side, summarises all of its benefits. Benefits capable of satisfying both the demands of the final user as well as the requirements called for by law. High mileage, retreadable, fuel savings, and low noise are the characteristics that let the new Regional maximise results both in terms of environmental sustainability as well as management of cost reduction for the end client. This was made possible thanks to the development of new materials and new structures that allow on one hand, an increase in the tyre’s number of lives, and on the other, a minimal environmental impact. "We have to be able to propose products that have an even better retreadability, in addition to having the capacity to last longer in their first life than those of the competition." declared Andrea Pirondini, Senior Vice President of the Pirelli Truck Business Unit, "Products must be able to cover over 350,000 kilometres and go through retreading three or more times, based on usage conditions. We have taken important steps forward, but the sustainability concept must become one of the primary forces behind our innovation activities. "The new Regional Series R:01 launch happened the following day at Autopromotec 09, the international trade show dedicated to equipment and products for the automotive industry. The show was at the convention centre in Bologna and ran until 24 May. The trade show saw record attendance, with 1,420 companies exhibiting from 47 countries. Pirelli Tyre showed a product line at the international event that demonstrated for all applications (automobile, motorcycle, truck) and for all segments, thanks to the new Cinturato P7, Angel ST, and the R:01 series. The renewal of the Pirelli Truck product line will be complete in September with the arrival of the ST 01, a new trailer tyre developed to maximise lifespan, in terms of kilometres and retreadability, as well as reducing fuel consumption. The event in Bologna was also the right moment to introduce a new package of support services for operators – the Pirelli Retreading System, the updated Pirelli system for retreading tyres, CQ24 International roadside assistance, and Credit Tyre, the financing system dedicated to fleets and dealers. Finally, Antonio Calabrò, Director of Institutional Affairs and External Relations for Pirelli, presented Truck to the audience – the Pirelli Group’s new quarterly magazine, now in its second edition, dedicated to the world of transportation. Truck opens a new channel of communication between the company and its end users, creating a continuous exchange of information to update and deepen knowledge with regards to product innovation and client needs. The R:01 Series tyres were donated by Pirelli to L’Aquila’s Civil Protection system to equip the Fire Fighters’ emergency transportation, for which the robustness and resistance of the tyres are indispensable in order to guarantee the reliability of the vehicles mon the destroyed roads.
