Pirelli is also proud to announce that it will supply for the three-year period (2011-2013) the GP2 World Series in addition to a tyre supply agreement starting from the current year for the inaugural GP3 series.

22 June 2010 - Pirelli exports to Australia its technology for reducing CO2 emissions

The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the Teams, and Formula One’s organising body, have chosen Pirelli as their exclusive supplier, based on the specific proposals from the Italian company to guarantee technical and operational stability to the competitors.

Pirelli Ambiente, the company in the Pirelli Group operating in the field of renewable energy, signed a licensing agreement with Bosco International, which promotes systems and industrial processes for a sustainable environment, which will allow the Australian company to use the Pirelli patent for production of high quality solid recovered fuel (HQ-SRF) derived from municipal solid waste (MSW).

The Pirelli technology will initially be used in the Latrobe Valley in Victoria, Australia, as part of the program ‘Towards Zero Waste Policy’ introduced by the local government for containment of waste, with the aim of converting the 600,000 tons of MSW produced annually by the city of Melbourne into fuel. In particular, the exchange of technology will stimulate an investment by Bosco International to develop an HQ-SRF plant in Australia, once authorizations are obtained from local authorities. The Pirelli HQ-SRF is obtained by adding other components with a high calorific power ( plastic from D.C. and rubber) to dry solid urban waste. It can be used to partially replace fossil fuels in already existing, non-dedicated, plants, such as cement works and thermal power plants and it yields significant environmental benefits for the population, both in terms of lower emissions in particular of CO2, NOX and SO2 from fossil fuels, and in economic terms (lower waste disposal costs).
The integrated system promoted by Pirelli Ambiente has been successfully used since late 2002 in the Cuneo Provincial Authority Area, with the Idea Granda project, a public-private partnership owned 49% by Pirelli, and 51% by local utility ACSR, with cement works Buzzi-Unicem of Robilante, which uses HQ-SRF in its main burner substituting more than 40% of coal-petkoke needed. From its beginning, this system has meant energy recovered from waste in the area rose more than 32%, a level greater than the Italian average (7%) and greater than the European average (27%).
In addition, according to a study by the University of Milan in Bicocca using the Life Cycle Assessment Method, use of Pirelli HQ-SRF is, respectively, 90 and 72 times more advantageous for the environment than landfills and incinerators.

Pirelli Ambiente
Pirelli Ambiente is the Pirelli Group company focused on renewable energy. In the field of renewable energy sources and, in particular, of energy recovery from MSW (Municipal Solid Waste), Pirelli Ambiente has developed and patented a High-Quality Solid Recovered Fuel (HQ-SRF). In the photovoltaic energy sector, Pirelli Ambiente created Solar Utility SpA, which invests in roof based solar energy systems for production in Italy.

Bosco International
Bosco International Pty Ltd, established in 2006, facilitates services, systems and processes for industry sectors seeking to create a sustainable environment, including saving energy or protecting resources. Bosco works with Australian and international companies, to offer sustainable environmental solutions. It seeks to achieve approvals and introduce new processes and systems for positive environmental results in: Waste management, Recycling, Power Generation, Manufacturing, Soil Remediation, Water treatment, Agribusiness, Natural Resources, Infrastructure, and Mining.
17 May 2010 - The Safe&Go summer safety campaign begins

Presented in Rome, it includes tyre information and control initiatives on the motorways. Tyre replacement incentives start

In collaboration with ‘Autostrade per l’Italia’ and Telepass, Pirelli presented in Rome yesterday (16 June) the summer campaign for road safety called “Safe&Go”, under the patronage of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Altero Matteoli.

At the launch of the initiative were the Minister, the chairman of the Pirelli Group, Marco Tronchetti Provera, together with Giovanni Castellucci and Fabio Cerchiai, managing director and president respectively of Autostrade per l’Italia’.

The prevention campaign is aimed at all motorists and has as its objective making the Italians’ holidays safer. It will begin during the weekend 19-20 June and will conclude on that of 28-29 August. During all of these weekends, motorists can meet with Pirelli technicians in one of the 10 mobile workshops set up in motorway service areas that the Società Autostrade makes available and receive a tyre check free of cost.

The check will conclude with the issue of a certificate of control, which will give the state of ‘health’ of the tyres and include the provision of informative material on tyres’ correct maintenance. In addition, each motorist will receive a tread depth gauge, an instrument with which to check the depth of a tyre’s remaining tread, which the law says may not be less than 1.6 mm.

The initiative is accompanied by an incentive campaign totally financed by Pirelli, which comprises a contribution of up to €170 for those who decide to replace their tyres which are worn or do not comply with the law with new Pirelli products by 14 August 2010.

The safety incentive, which continues until 31 May 2011, includes a €100 reduction on a subsequent purchase of a set of new tyres and a bonus of up to €70 in motorway toll charges for those who possess a Telepass Premium.

The Safe&Go campaign will involve about 1,400 tyre dealers in Pirelli workshops, who will play a central part in informing motorists of the fundamental role of tyres and the importance of correct maintenance and prevention.

February 25th 2010 - Cinturato leader of Green Performance
PireExcellent results achieved by Pirelli in tests carried out by ADAC, the most important automobile club in Europe lli wins '2009 Tyre Brand of the Year' in the Nigeria Auto Media Awards
The Cinturato P7 and P6 passed the tests carried out by ADAC with flying colours. ADAC is the most important and prestigious automobile club in both Germany and Europe, with over 19 million members.
So Pirelli confirms its leadership in terms of performance, safety and eco-compatibility, demonstrating yet again to have made the philosophy and driving values of "Green Performance" its own.
The test results, which have also been distributed through the automobile clubs of Austria and Switzerland (the OAMTC and TCS), show how the Cinturato P7 and P6 are extremely reliable tyres and, therefore, considered strongly recommendable to users.

During the tests, the Pirelli Cinturato P7 turned out to be the best tyre that marries a high level of performance in both the wet and dry with low rolling resistance, greater mileage and reduced sound emission. This is the result of Pirelli's approach to green performance, which has permitted the company to conquer a position of leadership by combining safety, performance and eco-compatibility.

There were similar results for the Cinturato P6, which not only beat all tyres in its tests, but it is also the only cover to be able to take its place in the Green Performance area. (see graph).

Spain: new logistics hub inaugurated

A 27,000 square metre warehouse, run by a team of over 80 people, to provide services for all clients in Spain and Portugal

Barcelona, February 2010: Pirelli Neumáticos España, S.A. can from today count on a new Logistics Hub at the Manresa factory (Spain) suited to the conduct of this new activity.

The hub, which began to be functional on 4 January, covers a total of 27,000 square metres and includes a new warehouse of 2,800 square metres and 19 loading and unloading bays. The site, run by 80 people, offers its services to all Pirelli’s clients in Spain and Portugal for all the divisions: car, truck and motorcycle and is capable of moving 250 tons of product per day.

To develop the new skills and manage the new responsibility, in December 2009 employees of the logistics, commercial, marketing and risk prevention departments held specific training courses for the hub’s personnel, over 80 people all of whom come from the old factory at Manresa.

In this way, after about 20 days all such personnel had taken part in lecture sessions on subjects such as: logistical distribution, managing competition tyres, risk prevention and safety, marketing and the range of products in order to improve their knowledge and abilities necessary to carry out their new tasks.

Through this new hub, Pirelli wishes to facilitate and optimise the logistical procedures of the company, improving in that way the service offered to clients in terms of rapidity and flexibility of operations and to always guarantee the availability of products of all ranges.

Said Adolfo Borgoñó, logistics manager, PINSA, “The new Manresa hub is a fundamental element in the logistics strategy of Pirelli at a world and European level, and will complete the existing network that exists in Egypt, China and Brazil. The new logistical hub is converting itself into a true logistical-distributive competence centre, where it will be possible to consolidate its know-how through the tests and development of logistical solutions which will be best suited to the tyre market”.

February 02th 2010 - Green performance arrives at Daytona
The new P Zero Racings without highly aromatic oils sustain a memorable 24 Hours of Daytona

The first competition for the new P Zero Racing slicks without aromatic oils started at 3.30 pm on Saturday 30 January, when Pirelli's 2010 racing tyres dominated Daytona with their green performance.

The new slicks, which were tested at the Daytona circuit a month before the race, produced consistency, durability and speed to the full satisfaction of all the teams which, for the third successive year, were fitted exclusively with Pirelli.

The new P Zero Racing rain tyres also took on the 48th Daytona 24 Hours with renewed bite on a track made exceptionally challenging and demanding by freezing rain, winds and storms that alternated with dry spells and less cold temperatures. “We are incredibly proud of our organisation and the products we design, develop and manufacture”, said Tom Gravalos, vice-president of marketing, motorsports and original equipment sales at Pirelli Tire North America. “Our capability to support and supply our racing tyres at the highest level was made very clear today. Many tyre brands that purport to be in the motor sport business cannot manufacture their own racing tyres because of the expertise required. However, Pirelli motor sport has proved over the last 102 years of victories that a racing heritage is earned not bought”. The winner of the Daytona Prototype Rolex 24 was car number 9, the Action Express Porsche Riley driven by Jaoa Barbosa, Terry Borcheller, Ryan Dalziel and Mike Rockenfeller. They covered 755 laps at an average speed of 111.930 mph (180.10 km/h) and put in a fastest lap of 1 minute 41.722 seconds. Altogether, competitors in the 2010 Daytona race covered 22,500 laps for a total of 80,100 miles (128,880.9 kilometres) exclusively on Pirelli tyres.
The next Grand-Am event will be the Grand Prix of Miami at the city's Homestead Speedway circuit on 5 and 6 March, a round in the Rolex Sports Car Series.
