"Development and sustainable growth are integral to the Pirelli Tyre's Company vision and strategy:  this is translated in our products, in our ecologically-friendly production processes, our work and in the quality of life for the community in which we live. Innovation and growth are the business challenges needed to assure long term competitiveness."

Pirelli Tyre and sustainable development

Pirelli Tyres sustainable approach to business is driven by the convinction that a company's performance cannot be considered in economic terms only: it must also be evaluated in light of the contribution the company brings to the quality of social and environmental systems, with an awareness of the connections existing among economic, environmental and social dimensions and of the impacts that a decision taken in one of these areas has on the others, whether visible or not. Sustainability for Pirelli Tyre is thus a fundamental choice, fully integrated in company's strategies for growth and in all management decisions, throughout the world.

An advanced Governance system is implemented for sustainability management: a dedicated organizational structure (CSR Tyre Manager plus a CSR Company Referents in each Affiliate), a specific IT certifiable System (the CSR Data Management), the strategical supervision of the Pirelli Group CSR Steering Committee, in which Pirelli Tyres'CEO seats, and an advanced Internal Control system are the structural basis in place to allow a 360 degrees monitoring of all economic, social and environmental impacts connected to company's processes and products, whit the aim of constantly improving sustainable performance while managing existing risks and preventing new ones.

The International Standard SA 8000 Pirelli Tyre reference tool for managing social aspects and is used  as a benchmark for assessing the consistency of the Company's conduct with the CSR principles specified therein. This entails frequent performance assessment of local sustainability indicators by all Pirelli tyre affiliates.

A "multi-stakeholder" approach, with careful attention given to all those who have an interest in the company for whatever reason, pursues sustainable and steady growth, the latter being as much as possible based on a fair balance between the different expectations of all those who interact with the Company.

This vision is fully compliant with the Pirelli Group sustainability documents, which are implemented by all Pirelli Tyre affiliates in the world:

Pirelli Tyre Sustainability Model is based on the United Nations Global Compact, to which Pirelli Group adheres since 2004. Pirelli Tyre thus supports, within its sphere of influence, the ten basic principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption. These involve universally shared values as they originate from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Pirelli Tyre also plays a very important role within Pirelli Group Sustainable Evaluations and ratings.
