Pirelli Plant Sets Tyre Production Record In Germany

With 10 million units produced, the Breuberg plant becomes the
country’s leader. In the same area, Pirelli also has one of the
most advanced development and testing centres in Europe.

Milan, 1 December 2005 – Pirelli will this year set a record
in the production of high performance tyres at its plant in
Breuberg. With 10 million units produced, the plant will become
Germany’s leading single production site.

The Breuberg plant, located outside Frankfurt, is Pirelli’s most
important industrial facility in Europe, covering an area of
350,000 square metres. Highly automated, implementing the
innovative Mirs (Modular Integrated Robotized System) production
process, patented and introduced by Pirelli in 2000, the plant
focuses on the production of high performance tyres for cars, SUVs
(Sport Utility Vehicles) and motorcycles, for both the German and
European markets.

Germany is considered as a market of reference in Europe for the
high performance tyre segments. The close relationship with German
car makers is strategic for Pirelli and facilitates the
consolidation of existing technological partnerships in this
sector, which are important for the development of innovative
products.

Pirelli’s leading position in one of Europe’s most competitive and
demanding markets is confirmation of the products’ success and
positioning in the premium segment. And it is also the result of
Pirelli’s development activities in the Breuberg testing center,
one of the most advanced in Europe.

Pirelli Tyres has production facilities in 12 countries with 24
plants and has a commercial and distribution network that covers
all the continents of the globe.

German Press Recognition for the Winter Tyres
  • New Homologations from BMW and Mercedes
  • Continued Growth for the Company in the Winter Tyre Sector
  • Milan, November 28, 2005 Pirelli achieved excellent
results throughout its range of winter tires in tests organized by
the most authoritative German motoring magazines. From the high and
ultra-high performance products, including the Run Flat winter
versions, to those of the SUV and touring segments, Pirelli tires
    excelled.
In particular, the Winter Sottozero radials fitted to the Audi A3,
BMW 5 Series and the Volkswagen Golf V GTI provided excellent road
holding and traction on snow as well as on wet and dry surfaces.
The Scorpion Ice& Snow tires fitted to the Volkswagen Touareg
provided optimum driveability on snow and excellent resistance to
aquaplaning. The Winter Snowsport Run Flat fitted to the BMW 1
Series came out on top in the tests for road holding and reduced
    braking distances on snow.
With the introduction of new larger sizes in the Run Flat versions,
the Pirelli winter range covers all market segments and
applications. This includes the high and ultra-high performance
Winter Sottozero and Winter Snowsport tires in sizes from 15
to 19 developed with innovative compounds and rated for
speeds up to 150 mph; as well as the Winter Snowcontrol range
available in sizes from 13 to 15 for touring cars. In
addition, the Scorpion Ice& Snow is now available in sizes from
15 to 20 developed to enhance the performance of the
latest generation of SUVs; and where studded tires are allowed, the
Winter Carving is available to cope with the most extreme climatic
    conditions.
The Pirelli winter tires are homologated by the worlds
leading carmakers with which the company works closely on the
    technological development of its products.
Besides the Lamborghini Gallardo, Maserati Quattroporte, Ferrari
612 Scaglietti, Ferrari F430 and Aston Martin Vanquish, the Winter
Sottozero was recently homologated for the Mercedes C Class, S
Class and CLK. In addition, the Winter Snowsports are now fitted as
original equipment to the BMW X3 and the Mercedes B class as well
as to Jaguar, Maserati and Porsche models.
On the SUV front, the Scorpion Ice& Snow tires have been
recently homologated for the Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen
    Touareg.
Both the latest homologations and the continued development of new
sizes and products confirm the companys growth in the winter
    segment.
Pirelli has recorded a positive growth trend and market share gain
in the winter tire segment from 2000 through 2004 both in Europe
and the US. Growth in the U.S. winter tire segment is forecast to
be 10% over the next 3 years.

Gardel’s Ferrari 550 disqualified: the Title goes to Pirelli and Maserati

Sakhir, Bahrain, 26 November 2005The Ferrari 550
Maranello driven by Gabriele Gardel, which did not contain the
regulation minimum of three litres of fuel in its tank at the end
of the race, has been excluded from the final results of the last
FIA-GT event at Sakhir. The disqualification brings with it the
cancellation of the points earned by Gardel, so that the drivers’
championship goes to Scheider-Bartels in the Pirelli P Zero
Racing
-shod Maserati MC12 of the Vitaphone Racing Team.

Officials examined the cars that finished the race
extremely carefully and, after more than five hours, they
sanctioned the exclusion of the Team Larbre Ferrari, which opened
the road to the conquest of this much-merited drivers’ title by
Pirelli to add to the constructors’ – thanks to
Ma-serati – and the team championship won with Vitaphone
Racing.

A further title won in Bahrain on which Paul
Hembery, director of Pirelli Competizioni,
congratulated the German drivers, saying, “Even though won
through disqualification, this drivers’ championship rewards
Maserati’s great technical effort and, obviously, that of Pirelli,
throughout the entire gruelling season, which has seen our tyres
win on the track seven times in 11 races in the face of extremely
competitive adversaries, especially in the case of the Gardel
Ferrari. This victory is a testimony to the effectiveness of our
cars. It also underlines the fact that we have five crews on
P Zero Racing in the first six places in the
Sakhir race and they drove four different cars – Maserati,
Corvette, Ferrari and Saleen – which should not be
underestimated”.

Happiness was firmly stamped on the face of
Michael Bartels who, after hours of tension, was ex-tremely pleased
with the result after the disqualification of the French team’s
Ferrari 550. “I would obviously have preferred to win on the
track, but the officials’ decision did nothing other than give us a
result which we earned fully on the circuit. Now we wait with
confidence for the outcome of the protest made by Team Larbre, but
the respect for the sporting spirit shown by the FIA technicians
enable me to be optimistic and to justly celebrate winning this
important title for Pirelli as much as for
Maserati and Vitaphone”.

Race results, Sakhir FIA-GT, 2005:
1. Bouchut-Garcia (Aston Martin DBR9), 90 laps in
3h01’36”661;
2. Peter-Davies (Maserati MC12), +26”209
3. Longin-Kumpen-Hezemans (Corvette C5R), +1’33”423;
4. Scheider-Bartels (Maserati MC12), +1 lap;
5. Cioci-Montermini (Ferrari 575 GTC), +1 lap;
6. Lechner-Ruberti (Saleen S7-R), +2 laps.
